Camp Facilities

Over 60 years ago Roger Freund, the YMCA executive secretary, saw the need for a place for youth to grow and experience Utah’s great outdoors.  The summer of 1948 began the great tradition of YMCA camping in Utah with a month of hosting boys 9 - 15 years old who slept in Army tents at night and during the day hiked, fished, swam, made crafts and performed skits at campfires.  Over the years camp grew, buildings were erected to replace the temporary housing with volunteers working tirelessly to build the 15 sleeping cabins we still use today.

At the time of construction over 50 years ago each cabin cost $500 and have been a great investment, sheltering tens of thousands children over the years.  The cabins have provided a place where communities are built, friends are made, and memories are created.  The fall of 2008 saw the beginning of renovations for each cabin. 2009 was a very exciting summer, one where we unveiled all of the improvements.

Bunk beds are built into the walls, opening up the inside and providing campers with more storage space under the beds.  This improvement along with the addition of covered porches have greatly enhance the opportunities for community building and group bonding with a great place to hang out and enjoy camp and time with new friends.

The lodge is another focal point of the camp experience. Three times a day all of camp gathers together as a whole to share meals and camaraderie . Nutritious and delicious meals are served, songs are sung, stories are shared. This building has also been serving the camp community for over 50 years and was also in need of a some updates. The facility now hosts a newly updated kitchen, a floor plan that will invite more of the outdoors in, and a newly added front porch. All updates that have greatly improve the feel and functionality of the Lodge.

Camp ammenities include archery range, horse corrals, beaver ponds, playing field, sand volleyballs pit, basketball court, health center, and program buildings.
