About Us

Elementary School Programs
YMCA After School Programs provide safe, supervised and structured activities for elementary school children each day after school. Our goal is to support the healthy development of young children while assisting families with juggling work and child care priorities. In addition, multiple studies show that children involved in after school programs have better peer relationships, higher grades and reduction in the likelihood of them becoming involved with gangs, crime and drugs.

Our after school programs operate Monday through Friday from the time school dismisses until 5:00pm or 5:30pm. Two or more trained YMCA program staff lead structured activities in the multipurpose room, cafeteria or library of the elementary school. Each day has a different theme in which the day's activities are planned around. For example, Monday is Sports, Tuesday is Arts & Crafts, Wednesday is Science and Technology, Thursday is Games and Friday is Adventure Day. In addition to the scheduled activity each day, there are 20-30 minutes of homework help time. A nominal fee is charged for the program; however, the YMCA has financial assistance available so families will not be turned away for their inability to pay.

The program mirrors our traditional after school programs with the exception that we transport the children to various program locations for their activities.

Junior High Art Programs
The YMCA provide fun, structured and supervised activities for junior high students on select days after school. Our goal is to support the healthy development of teens and offer them the opportunity to experience specialized art skills.

Each club has a different art emphasis area. Some of the after school clubs offered include dance, visual arts and drama. Each session involves direction and rehearsal or studio time. A performance or showcase of work is scheduled at the end of the session in which participants have the option to share their talents with guests. A nominal participation fee is charged per session.
